Nail Art

For those of you who know me my nails are my pride and joy. I’ve had long nails since I was a teenager and I’ve been taking care of them ever since.

Here are my top 5 tips to keep your nails looking their best.

1. Don’t bite them!!

I can’t understand why anyone would bite their nails. I know it’s one of those habits that’s hard to break but try to stop if you can. It’s not doing your nails any favours.

2. Cut and File once a week

I always trim and file my nails once a week. I keep them at a reasonable length as if they get too long they tend to break which I don’t want. That would be disasterous!!

3. Moisturise

Use a good hand cream every night. This is good for hands and nails.

4. Get enough calcium in your diet

Calcium is great for strengthening your nails. I don’t eat a lot of dairy but I do try to get some into my diet. Or you could also use a nail hardener such as Sally Hansen’s Diamond Strength Hardener – http://www.sallyhansen.com

5. Cover up

When you are cleaning that it is. Protect your nails with rubber gloves when you are cleaning or washing the dishes. My mum always used to laugh at me for doing this. Such a princess thing to do but hey, I love my nails and want them to look nice.

So there you have it. That’s my routine and tips for keeping your nails in great shape. Of course I love to paint them too. I’ve been trying my hand at some nail art recently. Check out my Nail Art post.

Chocolate and Ginger Cake 2

I’ve been in a chocolately kind of mood lately experimenting with a few different chocolate cakes. This chocolate ginger cake I have made a few times and I really love it. It has a very subtle ginger flavour so even the kids loved it.

If you want a bit more ginger flavour you can add a little more ground ginger or even some glacé ginger to garnish on top.

Even if you’re not a big fan of ginger give it a try. You’ll be surprised.

Green Smoothie

Green Anti Inflammatory Smoothie

I’ve recently discovered green smoothies. I’d been searching for a good one as they are believed to be anti inflammatory and great for your skin. You see, I have a skin condition called Rosacea which causes the skin on your face to become red and inflamed. You can also develop tiny pimples and bumps.

As you imagine this can be very embarrassing and I feel very self conscience. After reading up about it I discovered that it has a lot to do with your diet.

I read that green smoothies can be of help to your skin so thought I would give it a try. I’ve adapted this smoothie to my taste and I really like it. Of course you can add other greens too if you like.

I’ve been having one nearly every day for the last few weeks now and it has helped a little. My case is pretty severe though so medication is needed as well but it has helped and I feel better for having it. It’s best to drink during the day but I have been having it during the day as well. If it’s too pulpy add a little water to make it more drinkable.
